EPHI, Africa-CDC Continue to Strengthen Partnership
Deligates from Africa Center for Disease Control (Africa-CDC) Eastern Regional Coordination Center led by the Center’s director Dr. Mazyanga Lucy Mazaba paid an official visit to the Ethiopian Public Health Institute (EPHI) on November 6, 2024.
The Regional Director stated that the purpose of the visit is to identify areas of cooperation that will further strengthen the working relationship between the center and the institute and set common goals.
Dr. Mesay Hailu, Director General of EPHI, along with the Management members of the Institute received and welcomed the deligates.
Dr. Mesay expressed his gratitude for the on going support of the Center.
“According to a research on African countris Public Health Institutes by ‘Fortune Journal of Sciences’ which is published by Africa-CDC, EPHI is selected as Center of Public Health in East Africa for It’s excellence in Health Data Management, Public Health Emergency Response Coordination, and Research in Public Health,” explained Dr. Mesay. The Director General also briefed the deligates the on going activities the Institute is engaged in and It’s future directions.
Dr. Mazyanga on her behalf said that EPHI’s activities are well coordinated and are very suitable for partnerships. And a consensus was reached to work together on border crossing public heath emergencies, laboratory capacity building and technical and finacial support to realize the Institute’s strategic plan.
Finally the deligates have visited the Institutes laboratories including the Genetic Laboratory and also EPHI’s Public Health Emergency Operation Center.
In related news a consultative meeting organized by EPHI and Africa-CDC on Mortality Surveillance was held from November 4 to 8, 2024 in Africa-CDC Headquarters, Addis Ababa.
On the meeting EPHI’s Director General Dr. Mesay Hailu, called upon all relevant sectors to work together to the realization of the Mortality Surveillance’s strategic plan which is managed by EPHI.
