About Sidama Public Health Institute
Sidama Public Health Institute is the regional institution responsible for strengthening public health through research, emergency preparedness and response, laboratory services, and evidence-based public health action. The institute serves as a center for public health leadership, scientific inquiry, quality systems, and regional technical support in Sidama.
Why SPHI Exists
Public health systems are strongest when research, surveillance, laboratories, emergency coordination, and communication work together. SPHI exists to bring these functions together under one institution so that public health action in the region is more timely, evidence-driven, coordinated, and accountable.

To be a center of excellence in public health in Ethiopia.
Goal
To improve the health of the region’s population by expanding public health measures and disease prevention, strengthening scientific evidence, improving service quality, and building resilient systems for public health action.
Mission
The mission of Sidama Public Health Institute is to improve the health of the Sidama people through undertaking research on priority health and nutrition issues for evidence-based information utilization and technology transfer; effective public health emergency management; establishing quality laboratory systems; and training public health researchers and practitioners for best public health interventions.
